What a difference Steel makes

What a difference Steel makes.

At ECMIL, we are presently in top gear, resolving new and lost roofs, rebuilt walls,
paths and fresh guttering, throughout the Islands of the Eastern Caribbean and beyond.

Our steadily increasing stream of orders, tells us that
our new found and return customers are building their investments with quality made reliable steel products,
at great prices.

They have also heeded our calls to reinforce, replace
and renew their constructions to meet the potential
onslaught of future weather.

Caribbean weather can be volatile at the best of times. Meeting the dramatic increase of difficult weather patterns,
as well as their voracity, does require a rethink of materials, design and self sufficiency.

The increase in solar technology, thermal insulation,
water and land management and a common sense approach to new challenges, has led our region to a better understanding of how we should live and prepare for natures unexpected tirades.

What a difference Steel makes.

Over the past years, we have become aware of better structures, with more environmentally conscious considerations.

This is due, predominantly, to better informed combinations of client and architect, design and construction.
Builders now consult with engineers, architects work more closely with planners, customers readily engage with suppliers and everyone searches for emergent, reliable technology and materials, to bridge the gap between what we have and what we so desperately need, to sustain our way of life.

e are islands.  Unless we are frugal, vigilant and proactive, the very assets that we hold dear, will erode and collapse in the blink of an eye.  That's why these combinations of togetherness are so vital to greater security.

We have many roles at ECMIL.

Primarily, a supplier of quality steel and PVC products for
the construction industry, we offer support and experience,
to allow our customers to be better informed and better prepared.  We combine this with a policy of consistent
product enhancement, to keep offering current, reliable updates in materials and understanding.

A great example of this is Colorbond® Steel...

The evolution of corrugated roof sheeting has seen a low cost, basic invention for weather protection, blossom into an integral part of the solar heat management process.

Colorbond® Steel is the science of quality roofing.

In combination with Plyfoil® Insulation, it dramatically
reduces damaging and uncomfortable radiated heat.
High tech roofing screws, for better weather endurance, sealant tape to stop sheet lift, bat proofing, to reduce the incidence of pests and aluminium guttering for run off water management, all come together to turn inactive roof covering, into a year-round durable protection against heat, wind and water.

At ECMIL, our approach is the same
for each and every product we produce.

Having celebrated Easter in all our different ways,
take time to make a short list of things that would
substantially enhance your property.

Whether it be roof, walls, pavement, water, or conduit,
we can supply you with products and advice, which are
sure to make a long term difference to your environment.

Contact our knowledgeable staff
and find out how we can work together
to make your construction, stronger and safer,
to prepare for nature's events in 2019.

From Rebar and welded mesh, to barbed wire, chain link fencing, water tanks, wheelbarrows and nails, purchasing from a manufacturer and consolidating your shipping, will result in significant savings against standard retail purchases.

And by making prudent arrangements regarding the shipping container, your material security and product availability will save on your production time.

The combination of PVC and Steel?

The combination of PVC and Steel?

East Caribbean Plastics Industries Limited, a subsidiary of ECMIL,
manufactures PVC, CPVC and Electrical Conduit.

At first glance, you might ask the question,
how are steel and PVC connected?
Simple answer; on site.

While rebar and welded mesh are integral during the early building process, so are water pipes, electrical conduits and drain pipes, not to mention underground and foundation water storage.  It makes sense that the company should supply such an essential commodity.  From start to finish, when a building uses plumbing and electricity, PVC is in play.

Polyvinyl chloride, commonly known as PVC, is the third-most widely produced synthetic plastic polymer, after polyethylene and polypropylene.  It has two basic forms; rigid, used in construction for pipe, in profile applications such as doors, windows and siding, and for bottles and non-food packaging and flexible;  used in electrical cable insulation, imitation leather, signage, inflatable products, and many applications where it replaces rubber.

PVC was discovered by accident by a German chemist in the late 19th century and Griesheim-Elektron, a German chemical company attempted to use the substance, unsuccessfully in commercial products, in the early 20th century.

It was not until the development of a method to plasticize PVC, by Waldo Semon and the  B.F. Goodrich Company, that the more flexible product achieved widespread commercial use.

Pipes made from PVC,
are manufactured by extrusion.
This process starts by feeding plastic material (pellets, granules, flakes or powders) from a hopper into the barrel of the extruder.

The material is gradually melted by the mechanical energy generated by turning screws and by heaters arranged along the barrel.

The molten polymer is then forced into a die, which shapes the polymer into a pipe that hardens during cooling.

A great advantage of extrusion is that pipes can be made to any length, with an integrated coupling consisting of a push fit joint at one end, bonded by
a solvent cement, or by using injection-moulded couplings such as elbows, T-junctions and valves.

ECPIL's experience of the regional market has led to
the provision of a comprehensive range of PVC sizes and uses.

Standard Drain, Waste and Vent pipes, or DWV,
with a Standard Dimension Ratio, or SDR of 32.5
(the higher the number the thinner the pipe wall)
and 125psi, are supplied at sizes from 1.25" to 4".

Schedule 40 with an SDR of 20, used for high pressure applications, are supplied at sizes from .5" to 4"
and are also available in CPVC, a similar material to PVC, but with an increased chlorine content.
This difference in makeup allows CPVC to withstand
a wider range of temperatures and has become
the standard for hot water applications.

The company's PVC product list would not be complete, without the mention of Electrical Conduit, which is available in 20,25 and 32mm sizes, container shippable at 3m lengths.

There are a great many suppliers of PVC within
and without the region.  Many are of poor grade,
standard and dimension, with faulty performance.

ECPIL supplies the Caribbean region with PVC products, equal in quality to the steel supplied by its parent company.  The combination of both ranges of materials, used together will guarantee construction success, if used wisely and correctly.

Call your sales representative at ECMIL and ask for your PVC or CPVC requirements,
either as a dedicated request, or additional to your steel needs.
They are well versed in finding the right solution.

ECPIL's durable PVC products are known for their dependability and consistency.

Storage & Transportation

Storage & Transportation

Welded galvanised water tanks
have an amazing life expectancy,

and as a single unit, can handle a capacity of up to six times
its PVC counterpart.  A galvanised water tank will enhance
your long term collection of water, reducing your imminent dependency on Water Authority supplies, especially in dry
and storm weather.  It can withstand much greater winds,
to protect your greatest asset, your stored water supply.

It can also be customised to fit any space and shape,
unlike PVC standard sizes.

ECMIL has been supplying custom built water tanks to
the region for a great many years. They have never replaced one yet!

Our regional weather, in recent times, has become much more difficult to predict, more intense and destructive.
Developing and protecting our personal survival kit
has become more important than ever.

Heat reduction and solar energy use, coupled with good water management and storage, are the most important initiatives
that we can develop, both personally and on a regional scale.

Steel as storage is ideal in weight, durability and composition
to meet these challenges and create reliability, when our lives become destabilised due to storms.

It's remarkable just
how much work a wheelbarrow can do

For a mason, it is the vehicle of choice, carrying cement,
blocks, sand and ready mix, even concrete or plaster, often across a vast array of make-shift bridges, constructed from
12" by 1" casting boards, to the latest destination during construction.

What makes this possible without disaster? The rubber tyre,
as it bounces over different heights and imperfections in
its path.

For carpenters, plumbers and electricians the humble wheelbarrow plays an equally critical role, as the single most important utility tool on any building site.

A solid construction enables a wheelbarrow to achieve its primary goal with dry and wet cargo. This is where steel plays such an important part.

This often ignored vessel will be bashed, bumped, dropped from a great height and stressed beyond belief, all in the name of construction.

The rubber and wooden varieties are for light gardening; practical, if somewhat cosmetic.  A steel constructed wheelbarrow will make it through the building process, to endure the indignity of removing the last of the site garbage, only to become the home owner's friend and favourite garden companion.

An important sidebar to this is that you should never lend your wheelbarrow. It will be like losing your right arm during the time it's gone and will somehow never be the same again when it returns!

The combination of Storage and Transportation will enhance
your long term collection of water, while easing the movement of items
and debris around your property, saving on labour and potential health issues.

Comprehensive Sizing and Reliability

Comprehensive Sizing & Reliability

Nails for Indoor
& Outdoor Applications

Galvanized nails undergo a process that involves coating them with zinc to protect them and act as weatherproofing.

They should be used with pressure treated wood.
The contents of pressure treated wood will deteriorate

a regular nail.

Use wire nails for untreated wood. most ordinary nails
are coated to aid in sinking, but not for weather.

They will rust in external environments; a galvanized nail will not.

Galvanized nails
are durable and reliable.

They are great for outdoor applications and have an excellent staying power that cling more tightly to the surface they are being nailed into.

Therefore, they work well for attaching parts of stairs, decks, window frames, house trims, etc. They are low-maintenance
and do not shrink or crack easily, offering greater resistance
to water and abrasion and are also very cost effective when compared to other nails.

NB. Always use eye protection when driving nails, especially galvanized ones, as the coating may chip off and become dangerous.

The combination of galvanized and wire nails, in a full range of sizes, headed and headless,
are designed to meet a full range of carpentry applications and will add durable, long term reliability
to any project.

We offer these quality materials in the following specifications:

Galvanized Nails

Your ideas and our construction

Customised Steel Fabrication
adds
 character to your Building

There are many instances in building construction,
when the services of a welder are required. Often, they install
or modify steel structures which are troublesome afterthoughts,
to the overall building scheme.

These additions include burglar bars and internal security gates, rails, fences and sliding, or hinged main gates.

"We'll deal with those later" is often the cry.
'Later', will often become messy and time consuming, not to mention difficult to find a reliable welder to work on site

and generally expensive.

ECMIL undertakes many custom metal fabrication projects,
with a professional finish, on time and budget.

With a little forward planning, you can now develop those wishlist details.  Give us a description and drawings/ specifications* for the work to be undertaken, when ordering and consolidating your building materials.

We will assist you in the production and planning of these custom fabrications to your requirements.

The items will be shipped with your order, saving on price
and transportation, while allowing your contractor to install
at the appropriate time, during the building process.

As global weather patterns evolve
and increasingly dictate the story our lives,
so Steel, in all of its essential combinations, continues to be the most reliable material which allows us protection and survival.

Prudent management of our shelter has become the key to maintaining and developing our world; constructions to withstand and manage winds and water are being constantly tested at all levels in our Caribbean.

If we are to find our way, with safety, then we must invest in common sense structures which embrace essential combinations of ideas and materials,
to capitalise our natural resources.

From water storage to solar energy, storm water channeling and better foundations, heat reduction materials and better security mechanisms, we must embrace better thinking and smarter response,
to enhance our lives, be they personal, community, business or country.

All of these have essential combinations of Steel
products at the core of successful strategies.

Responsibility has never been someone else's problem. Each of us has a role to play in a better way of living. Especially the creative ideas of young engineers,
