Essential Combinations

Essential Combinations

As global weather patterns evolve
and increasingly dictate the story our lives,
so Steel, in all of its essential combinations,
continues to be the most reliable material which allows us protection and survival.

Prudent management of our shelter has become the key
to maintaining and developing our world; constructions
to withstand and manage winds and water are being constantly tested at all levels in our Caribbean.

If we are to find our way, with safety, then we must invest in common sense structures which embrace essential combinations of ideas and materials, to capitalize our natural resources.

From water storage to solar energy, storm water channeling and better foundations, heat reduction materials and better security mechanisms, we must embrace better thinking and smarter response,
to enhance our lives, be they personal, community, business or country.

All of these have essential combinations of Steel
products at the core of successful strategies.

Responsibility has never been someone else's problem. Each of us has a role to play in a better way of living. Especially the creative ideas of young engineers,
architects and the construction industry, as they strive
to find novel solutions to age old regional difficulties.

At ECMIL we have created our product range through
many years of hands-on experience, assisting a great
many construction projects with the supply of highest quality steel items, to achieve lasting and durable results.
We are proud to say that we keep moving forward
in our technology and offer to our customers.

We know what you need and have refined our products
to supply with only international quality and standards.
A perfect example of this lies in Zincalume®, a tried
and tested high performance steel, for roofing or siding, with a manufacturer recommendation for

"The use of Zincalume® steel
for the collection of drinking water"

It's tremendously attractive and water safe too!

Our recent weekly posts series emphasizes
Steel Combinations, which are essential to creating
more secure and holistically sustainable structures
and living environments, across the Region.

All of this does not just apply to new projects.

The majority of construction problems, which often show themselves during or after bad weather, are maintenance work, which can be resolved by reinforcement, cleaning and replacement, or reengineering, to better suit new weather patterns or changes in physical surroundings.

Strengthen it, update it, seal it,
tighten it and keep water away.

This is our recommended checklist for any construction,
which responds to the majority of bad weather issues.

We don't have minimum orders at ECMIL.
We supply what you need to resolve your project.
This not only includes steel, it also includes experience
and good advice. Just ask and explain.

Every day we send considerable quantities of well chosen steel products to all corners of the Caribbean,
on the strength of those customer conversations.
They are the starting point for a more reliable
and secure environment and investment.

From roofing screws to coated steel, proofing against bats and rodents, custom built water tanks, rebar, welded mesh and chain link fencing, with as many accessories as it takes to address the problem.

Our customers and ECMIL are the most important combination of all.

From Rebar and welded mesh, to barbed wire, chain link fencing, water tanks, wheelbarrows and nails, purchasing from a manufacturer and consolidating your shipping, will result in significant savings against standard retail purchases.

And by making prudent arrangements regarding the shipping container, your material security and product availability will save on your production time.

Fencing & Security

Fencing & Security

Chain Link Fencing Wire is everywhere,
in various forms and widths,
demarcating our homes and businesses.

It protects us against intruders and shows us where we can and cannot pass. Most of all, it is the ultimate utilitarian divide. It's there, but it's not; a truly equitable alternative to its concrete or timber counterparts.

All things considered, chain link offers a different perspective. It defines and protects your space with a light, airy feel, while making your boundaries appear clean and tidy. It's also economical, quick to put up and to replace.

If you are new to building a chain link fence, we recommend that you read our following article, to acquaint yourself with the general process.

Installing a Chain Link Fence

A combination of concrete gate posts, a custom built decorative gate, fabrication courtesy ECMIL, chain link, fence poles, fencing and barbed wire, will give your land an attractive, durable, finished construction, clean style and a substantial upgrade to your home security.

Of many traditional security measures
the most effective and long lasting
is the Barbed Wire Fence.

It was first patented in the United States in 1867
to Lucien B. Smith of Kent, Ohio, who is regarded as the inventor. However, Joseph F. Glidden of DeKalb, Illinois, received a patent for the modern invention in 1874,
after he made his own modifications to previous versions.

Barbed wire featured extensively in the development
of the West, in the US, due to its attractive cost, ease of installation and the effective role which the material played, in land demarcation and control of cattle and other herds of animals, previously allowed to run free across prairies, boundaries, crops and dangerous terrain.

Its introduction quickly changed and instigated new legislation, to protect rights of damage and loomed large
in the security and expansion of the American railway network, keeping livestock and robbers off the railroad tracks.

It was noted by one observer that,
"it takes no room, exhausts no soil, shades no vegetation, is proof against high winds, makes no snowdrifts, and is both durable and cheap."

The combination of these quality products, are an effective deterrent to unwanted animals,
trespassers and thieves, to secure compounds and private properties, large and small.

We offer these quality materials in the following specifications:

Chain Link Fencing

Rolls: 4', 5' & 6'
Gauge: 3mm wire
Length: 75'

Steel Fence Poles: 2"
Horizontal Rails: 1.5"

NB. One and a half inch horizontal rail piping
can be used as posts for 4' fencing wire.

A wide range of accessories are also available, including tying wire, couplings, post caps, eye caps, barbed wire caps and single arms.

All at 19' [6m] lengths

Barbed Wire

Gauge: 12.5
Roll Length: 600'

From Rebar and welded mesh, to barbed wire, chain link fencing, water tanks, wheelbarrows and nails, purchasing from a manufacturer and consolidating your shipping, will result in significant savings against standard retail purchases.

And by making prudent arrangements regarding the shipping container, your material security and product availability will save on your production time.

Strength & Resistance

Strength & Resistance

The Strength of Concrete Structures Depends on Rebar

Rebar (short for reinforcing bar), is a steel Rod
used as a tension device in reinforced concrete
and reinforced masonry structures, to strengthen and hold the concrete in tension. Rebar's surface is often patterned to form a better bond with the concrete.

Concrete is a material that is very strong in compression, but relatively weak in tension. To compensate for this imbalance in concrete's behavior, rebar is cast into it to carry the tensile loads.

Masonry structures and the mortar holding them together have similar properties to concrete and also have a limited ability to carry tensile loads. Some standard masonry units like blocks and bricks are made with voids to accommodate rebar, which is then secured in place with grout.
This combination is known as reinforced masonry.

While any material with sufficient tensile strength could potentially be used to reinforce concrete, steel
and concrete have similar properties of thermal expansion: a concrete structural member reinforced with steel will experience minimal stress, as a result of similar expansions of the two interconnected materials caused by temperature changes.

The Steel that
holds Concrete Together

In 1901 the American inventor John C. Perry, patented
the method for welding wire mesh, often known as ‘fabric’. Initially, this was used to reinforce roads and pavements and later served as reinforcement to concrete floors
and walls of buildings made out of concrete.

empire state building

A classic example of the strength and longevity of welded mesh are the 102 floors of the Empire State Building, built in 1930.

These are reinforced with wire mesh and, although the skyscraper is eighty-seven years old and has undergone many renovations, the original reinforced concrete floors still remain unchanged.

As a manufacturer, ECMIL applies and maintains international standards on all of its products, recognizing that each piece of steel it provides to its customers, is mission critical in terms of durability and performance.

The combination of these quality products, in concert with quality design, create structures
able to resist evolving Caribbean weather patterns.  The world steel market provides many variations of quality.
This, in turn can affect strength, resistance and durability.

ECMIL utilizes only best quality materials, tested to surpass international standards.

We offer these quality materials in the following specifications:

Mild & High Tensile Steel Rebars

Mild Steel Rods
