In times gone by roof construction was a basic affair.
Wooden purlins and basic roof sheeting were the standard. The better projects included an internal ceiling hiding the underbelly of the galvanized sheets.
This in turn, gave rise to an often unwanted attic where equally unwanted creatures could nest and crawl through the corrugations of the roof. The sheets themselves were attached with standard roofing nails.

I can still remember my first mending session, patching rusted traditional roof sheeting using ‘Flashban’ tar foil and roofing nails.
